Commissioner Training
When a new commissioner is recruited, the first step is to provide a
form of Fast Start training. This lasts an hour and provides enough
information that you understand your position and where you fit in the
organizational structure. This training may be presented to individuals
or a group. If you are a new unit commissioner or ADC, this training is
presented by the district commissioner. If you are a new district
commissioner or ACC, this training is presented by the council
commissioner.
As soon as possible, a new commissioner will
receive Basic Commissioner Training. This syllabus a comprehensive
course that lasts several hours. Given the length, this training is
usually presented to a group and scheduled when convenient for the
group. If you are a new unit commissioner or ADC, this training is
presented by the district commissioner. If you are a new district
commissioner or ACC, this training is presented by the council
commissioner.
Each year, our council holds a Commissioner's
College in November (this achieves the same purpose as an annual
council commissioners conference, which other councils have). At this
college, you can earn a Bachelor of Commissioner Science degree, a
Masters of Commissioner Science degree, a postgraduate degree, and a
Doctorate of Commissioner Science degree. As you earn these degrees,
opportunities will exist to serve on staff and faculty.
| NOTE: | To earn a degree, you need to receive Basic Commissioner Training "before" attending. In special circumstances, you can attend the
college and receive the degree retroactivity once you complete Basic
Commissioner Training. This must be approved in advance by the Dean of
the degree program you are taking. |
